Roses – Climbing

We are so excited to add climbing roses to our garden.

We had some over twenty years ago. They seemed simple enough; we had them on an arch, and it was fine.  Gosh, well, so I thought, as they say, ignorance is bliss haha.

At this time, inflation has even hit all our plants and flowers.  We are taking extra care to ensure our investments are well taken care of.

This is where the classes come in.  Sure I’ve planted and grown numerous types; however, I have no scientific knowledge, education, or background in what exactly makes all of this THRIVE.  I’d like it to Thrive for my money, wouldn’t you?

There are plenty of sources online if you want to take the time.  I’m looking for something that is tailored to:

Our area climate (our zones have changed recently)

Our soil type

Even in Southern California, there are great differences between inland, valleys, mountains, and beach.   I consider an expert in this ‘region’ essential to the odds of my success.

I know one who has decades of experience, specifically with Roses.  A college degree in horticulture.  (please know you can take a ‘test’ and say you are a horticulturist; that is not the same level of knowledge as having a degree in the field)

That’s the basis of my wish list; of course, it goes much further in that I want to ‘design’ or decorate with my roses, not simply plant them and say, gosh, you’re pretty.  Absolutely nothing wrong. I have several that way and adore them yearly.

This time I want a WALL of ROSES!  No, not an arbor, not an arch, a living wall.  Oh, and no, not a hedge. I’ve got those around me and seen plenty, thank you.  I want flowers. I love blooms!!

I want to know all the things…

Where to buy,  best price, best selection, best guarantee, oh and best plant (which ones)

How to plant, where to plant

Now the fun stuff, how to train the canes, what is a main cane? Why is it tied at 45 degree angle.  What do we do with the other canes?  Do we dead head, I read somewhere not on climbers.

I did get some cattle panel gosh that was interesting however wow love it over lattice this stuff is not going to rot or break.  No wonder it’s all over instagram etc.

You see I have a lot I’d love to learn just about climbers.  How about you?  I can go educate myself or I’ll organize a class, get the speaker have the plants for you to see, get a demo on what we need to do etc.  If you’re interested I’m not waiting, so let’s get going, send me a note..  (at  roses at ourwhitecottage.com you know to use the @ that just helps me eliminate a ton of junk mail)

Want some pretty inspiration pics I’ve seen?
